Memorial Day
I
really enjoy this flag. It’s located in Fairview Utah and it’s usually
one of the first things you see coming into town driving southbound on
Highway 89. I think the people who own the gas station are some very
proud Americans and I feel proud whenever I see it.
Freedom is
like a spiritual fire. And because it’s spiritual, it can only be
maintained by a spiritual people who understand freedom and are willing
to make the sacrifices required to keep it. So much of the freedom that
we enjoy today is a result of the sacrifices of those who have come
before us. Many of our grandparents, great grandparents and great great
grandparents, who have passed on, understood what it takes to be free.
They were willing to make the sacrifices, whether great or small,
required for the cause of freedom.
But those who have served
in the armed forces were willing to make the ultimate sacrifice. Many
have made that ultimate sacrifice. It’s estimated that 1.4 million
Americans have died in the defense of our freedom. And today we honor
them. We honor them with our gratitude. We also honor them by doing
our part to keep the fire of freedom burning strong. Let us never allow
their sacrifice to be in vein. I want to wish everyone a happy
Memorial Day.
